The Vale of Leven Credit Union began as a savings club in 1979 in a local primary school with a view to forming a Credit Union, using the Vale of Leven area as a common bond.

The Vale of Leven Credit Union was registered on 2nd May 1980. Initially The Credit Union shared premises in the clinic in Bank Street with the R.S.P.C.C. with the Credit Union having use of them on a Monday evening, we then moved to a flat in North Street before being given permanent use of the current premises at 6 Bank Street.

From the issue of the first loan of £50 there was £2,083 paid to members in loans in the first year. The value of loans out to our members is now £ 971,226 with a share value of £915,324. as at end July 2000.

We have 1986 active adult members of the Credit Union and 220 junior members.

After 21 years service to the community the Credit Union still has it's members best interests at heart and our main aim is to continue to serve our current members and welcome any new persons into our membership.
